S6 Ep4 It's Okay To Vent - Talking Male Mental Health with Freddie Cocker
We’ve discussed mental health on this podcast many times, but to be honest we feel like there’s been something missing from the conversation. Around 1 in 8 men have a common mental health problem, but they are far less likely to seek medical support, or open up to friends, family or even their employers. In the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women, and the rate is rising amongst the under 25s.
In this episode we sit down with Freddie Cocker to discuss male mental health issues, his own experiences and how he’s using his platform to help others share their experiences and find support.
About Freddie
Freddie Cocker is the founder and Editor in Chief of Vent.org.uk, a platform where everyone, but men and boys especially, can share their experiences about their mental health, find support in a safe environment and, in doing so, help them to lead a full and enjoyable life.
Freddie also hosts the Just Checking In Podcast, where each week a new guest, be it a comedian, a footballer or a frontline worker, share their personal experiences relating to mental health. It’s a lovely listen, often full of relatable stories and lets you know that you’re not alone in what you may be feeling.
This episode discusses bullying, suicidal thoughts, toxic masculinity and the stigmas associated with men's mental health issues. Freddie shares lot of insight into these issues as well as some really useful advice on how to reach out and find help if you, or someone you know, is struggling.
